Alcohol (ethanol or ethyl alcohol) is the ingredient found in beer, wine and spirits that causes drunkenness. Ethanol and water are the main components of most alcoholic beverages, although in some very sweet liqueurs the sugar content can be higher than the ethanol content.
People go into drinking for different reasons, some drink because of the stressful period in their life, because it helps to alleviate their negative feelings. The drinking removes, at least temporarily, the stress of anxiety. Some drink because it has become an habit for them. Some drink due to peer pressure, people drink because alcoholic drinks are quite accessible, some drink for fun.
When these people get so involved with alcohol they ignore the long term consequences involved.
Drinking large amounts of alcohol for many years will take its toll on many of the body's organs and may cause organ damage. Organs known to be damaged by long-term alcohol misuse include the brain and nervous system, heart, liver and pancreas. The effects of alcohol addiction on the body and overall health can be significant. They can be difficult or impossible to reverse.
Alcohol causes hangover, dehydration, frequent urination, low blood sugar, immune system inflammation, weakness, fatigue, rapid heart rate, poor sleep, restlessness and some long term diseases. Aside the sicknesses involved, it causes alot more harm in the life of the drunk.
