Being self employed is a good idea of earning money though, I would not lie about that but as we all know that there are challenges in everything we do in this life and I am sure that it does not leave out the money making ways as well. There are some things one should know about making income on their own. As a salary earner, at least you will know that you have to wait on a particular date in order to receive the payment you have worked for but things do not go like that if you are an entrepreneur. It goes like this;

1. First of all, you have to understand that the early stages of every business is always challenging so you have to ask yourself if you are ready for it because this part alone is what discourages some people and just give up easily. Well some establishments do get a good start and later on, you will start facing the challenges you are supposed to have encountered during the onset and it might destroy everything if proper care is not taken.

2. Second of all, you have to know that sales do not come everyday, like they say here in my country “everyday is not Christmas” as there is the profit days, so there is the loss days as well, so you have to prepare yourself in every possible ways to face those moments.

All you have highlighted are indeed very true there are somany factors that is really killing small and medium scale business. Becoming self employed is very challenging in a country like Nigeria.

You will have to struggle to source for capital to start up the business. And when you have succeeded in getting the start up capital, you still require some technical know how to manage the business effectively. Then there are other political and environmental factors you must learn to manage, like poor power supply, bad roads, and even the banking systems are very corrupts as they deduct funds indiscriminately from customers accounts. All these are challenges that one bound to face.

Those are the two common challenges faced by people who want to be self-employed. You will not have the power to control sales always as customers may not come. It always calls for extending your niches or what you are selling so that you will not run out of customers. As a freelancer, there are times that I do that often. From a sports writer to a personal statement writer to keep getting more and more jobs to be done.

Choosing to become self-employed is not an easy decision in this part of the world. Self-employed people are those people that do not work for a superior, they work for themselves and they could also be known as entrepreneurs. To become self-employed, you should be ready to battle with so many challenges and so many risk as a self-employed person. As a self-employed person, there are times where you might not make sales due to low customer patronage and also times where you will not be able to offer your services. For example, someone who is working in a cleaning agency or who is a caterer might not be opportune to meet clients or to get recommendations each time for cleaning duties or for cooking duties. In such instances, you will see the challenges, because if you're not able to work, that means you won't be able to feed yourself. Becoming self-employed is not just a rash decision to be taken, it needs proper and adequate planning because definitely even if you are very good and what you do there still sometimes which you would encounter setbacks and your ability to handle these challenges will determine your level of sustainability. Being self-employed is more like the survival of the fittest.
