Business and Politics

I've been thinking a lot about business and politics lately. My biggest concern is that the two have become so intertwined that it's hard to tell where one ends and the other begins. I'm not just talking about outsourcing or offshoring; those are just symptoms of a larger problem, not causes. Business is a funny thing. It's not always about making money or even making stuff, but it often involves creating new things that people want, or changing the way people live their lives in ways that are meaningful to them.

But this is also a political business. Politics shapes what businesses can do and how they do it. It influences who gets to do what and how they do it. And in some ways, politics is more important than business because politics determines whether some businesses succeed or fail while others are allowed to exist at all.
