Business and politics have always been intertwined. But should they be? There are pros and cons to mixing the two.
On the one hand, businesspeople are often brought in to advise politicians on economic policy. And lobbyists are often hired by businesses to try and get certain laws passed or repealed. This type of back-and-forth is seen as necessary for a healthy economy.
On the other hand, many people feel that businesspeople should stay out of politics, and that the two should be kept separate. They argue that businesspeople are only interested in making money, and that they shouldn't be involved in making decisions that affect the entire country. Finally, they worry that the wealthy will have too much influence on politics, and that the average person will have no say.
