There has always been a challenge in the setup of a hospital. The challenge has always had to do with the management of a hospital. Some people feel that a hospital being a health service delivery institution should be managed by a health professional. Others feel the hospital whether public or private should be managed by competent professionals trained in business and management professions.
This has ways led to industrial disputes. Both sides have a point. If a doctor or health professional takes charge of the administration of a hospital, he is going to do better because he understands the challenges of the health delivery system.
On the other hand, if a hospital is managed by a business and management guru, he would bring in strong management techniques that would increase efficiency and improve service delivery.
