We have got a lot of kids who are suffering from sickle cell anaemia which is a hereditary conditions that is as a result of two SS parents or an AS parent marrying another SS partner. This then leads to them giving birth to children (or just one of their children) who will be suffering with sickle cell anaemia.
Most of such kids are not living the best of their lives as they often fall sick and are also being discriminated against in some societies. Some of them even resort to loneliness to avoid being identified as sickle cell anaemic patients.
A major reason why this condition continue to linger is because most people do not go to test to know their genotype and they end up marrying someone who may be sickle celled or a carrier of the gene, this bringing up children with the condition too.
Do you think it is important for the government to make genotype testing compulsory?
