Avoid religious, political, and cultural arguments at work.

The workplace is a place where people from all walks of life come together to work, discuss problems and solve them. It is important that we do not allow religion, politics or culture to interfere with our ability to do our job.

Religion

It is important for employees to respect other people's religious beliefs and practices. This does not mean that you should show disrespect in any way towards your co-workers based on their religion. You should however avoid discussing your own religious beliefs or practices with others at work as this can cause offence.

Politics

Political discussions are not appropriate at work and can often lead to arguments which could result in disciplinary action against the person who started them. The same applies to cultural differences - it is also important that we do not discriminate against other cultures when working as part of a team.

Culture

We must be careful about how we conduct ourselves in the workplace because certain cultures may have different expectations of behaviour than our own. For example, some cultures consider it acceptable to take a long time over lunch but not if doing so will slow down the completion of an assignment.
