If you are interested in knowing about start-ups either for investment purposes or launching your own start-up, here is what you need to understand about start-up zoology

Unicorn: These start-ups are valued at $1 billion. The term was coined by Venture Capital Investor Aileen Lee. Years ago, there were only a few start-ups that were valued at $1 billion, however, these days a lot of start-ups are worth above $1 billion. Therefore, new terms have been coined, for instance, decacorn is a $10 billion company and hectocorn is a $100 billion company.

Zebra: While Unicorn is focused on growth at all costs, Zebra is focused on generating profit. They are looking for sustainability. The term was coined by Start-up founders Jennifer Brandel, Mara Zepeda, Astrid Scholz, and Aniyia Williams.

Rhino: These start-ups aim at growth as well as profits. According to Nick Nash, cofounder of Asia Partners, rhinos are the start-ups valued at $1 billion in the multiple of price-to-earnings and not on the revenue.
