Tenants can pay their rent via issuance of checks but there are also dubious would-be tenants that might want to play a fast one on the landlord's by issuing fake checks

Unfortunately, they are tenants running fake checks scams which means that as a landlord you have to be watchful to avoid falliing for this scam. What the fraudsters do is to offer fake checks for rent to gain access to the unit with no intention of ever paying.
So when you try to cash the check, you will get to know that the funds are invalid and you have to start dealing with getting paid or trying to evict the scammer. But you can save yourself this stress by doing the needful right from the onset by applying caution

So how can you avoid this fake check scam for rent

Check the check you received for any inconsistencies or suspicious elements like security threads,
watermark etc These are high-security features that can't be easily duplicated on checks.

Be wary of where the check was mailed directly from. then be sure to get check cleared before allowing anyone into your property.

Know the differences between cashier’s checks and money orders. Avoid getting Money order as it might difficult-to-trace funds unlike a checks which is much easier.

Avoid collecting a check that feel and looks printed.
