There are thousands of ways you can make money online from home and if you are just starting out, it can be difficult to know which ones to choose. Some methods require very little start-up capital, but may not make you much at all. Others may look like they’re the best way to make money, but aren’t actually that easy or profitable! If you don’t know what you are doing, it can be very easy to go down the wrong path and end up without a lot of income at the end of the month!
#1: Freelance writing
Freelance writing is one of the most common ways newbie entrepreneurs start making money online. It's an easy entry point to financial freedom, with relatively low risk and high earning potential once you've mastered it. With freelance writing, you're basically doing paid articles for different companies or individuals. The great thing about freelancing is that there are so many different types of freelance jobs out there - they vary from content creation to web design, development, and even proofreading and editing.
#2: Selling your old stuff
You’re unlikely to have hordes of cash lying around, but selling your old stuff is one easy way to bring in some extra dough. Craigslist is a good place to start with garage sales, and eBay is always an option for more established items (and bigger ticket items). Amazon’s Trade-In program gives you cash for electronics like iPads, Kindles, video games and more. You get paid by check or via gift card after submitting your item online.
#3: Coaching
You need to either have clients already or have experience in the field you’re looking to break into. If you’re just starting out, consider volunteering to help people one-on-one. It would be good practice, plus people may actually pay you (instead of vice versa) if they recognize your expertise. Getting your first client is tough, so spend some time building up your social media presence so it will come naturally when you go looking for work later on down the line. If that doesn’t work, keep at it—your first client could end up being someone who was inspired by seeing what you did for others!
#4: White a book
You’re not sure how to get started. You don’t know where to begin. The idea of writing a book scares you silly. In fact, it scares you so much that thinking about actually doing it makes your hands sweat and your knees weak. But writing a book is an interesting thing to do—whether you are trying to earn extra income or trying to establish yourself as an expert in your industry or on your topic of choice, there is no better way to do it than by writing an e-book. E-books have taken off in recent years and they are here to stay, because they are relatively inexpensive (compared with traditional books) and easy for customers to buy and consume.
#5: Affiliate marketing
This is one of my favorite ways to make extra cash online because it is hands down, no risk involved. It's free to sign up as an affiliate and you get paid when someone buys a product or service through your link. This is another excellent way to build traffic to your website/blog where people will see your recommendations, so they will be more likely to convert if they find value in what you have to say. Plus most affiliate programs (with a few exceptions) pay their affiliates monthly so if you become an affiliate today, you don't have to wait long before seeing results.
#6: Take surveys
As someone once told me, taking surveys is easy money. It's true! There are numerous survey sites that will reward you for your time, and earning extra cash has never been easier. One of my favorites is Swagbucks because they've been around forever and pay in cash instantly. Even if you sign up using someone else's referral code, they'll still give you $5 bonus after your first deposit of $25. So even if you don't want to start right away with Swagbucks, it doesn't hurt to register for an account and just be on their lookout for great survey opportunities!
#7: Become virtual assistant
The virtual assistant is in high demand for almost all online business. You can find plenty of jobs on oDesk, Fiverr and other sites that offer freelance work. These are long-term contracts which give you flexibility to work with several clients at once while setting your own schedule. You get paid well by doing data entry, customer service, content writing and similar tasks.
#8: Online tutoring
What do you love to do? Is there anything you are good at that you could potentially teach someone else, perhaps even in exchange for cash. Platforms like Udemy offer high commission rates, so you'll be making more per sale while doing very little extra work, if any. There are also programs like VIPKID and TutorVista that have virtual classrooms and set up their own student-teacher relationships online. Become an online tutor. The time is right and schools are offering parents many options today including how and where they want their children to receive education, which means quality educators such as yourself can choose your own schedule depending on what fits your lifestyle needs best!
#9: Become beta tester
Beta testers are not only making money but they’re helping build new things. If you have experience using an application that is still in development or helping with software issues, you could be valuable beta tester for companies. Do your research and find out if you qualify for any opportunities like these. Sometimes companies will offer discounts or special access to those who help test their products so keep your eyes open. In fact, here are 12 legitimate websites that pay you to test products before they hit store shelves!
#10: Write Reviews
If you have expertise in some area, you can use that knowledge to earn cash through writing reviews online. In return for writing honest reviews, you’ll get paid a commission, typically between 50 cents and $5 per review. If you have lots of friends or family members who shop regularly online, you could start earning passive income just by asking them if they’d be willing to read your reviews! You can also visit sites like Vindale Research where they pay people to write daily reviews and surveys to generate some income from. But don’t forget about all those other amazing ways to get paid by companies as well.

Freelance Writing - If you like to write and have an interest in several topics, I would suggest making use of freelance writing sites. These sites are where individuals with particular interests will seek out writers who can craft articles on their behalf. It is important to research these before taking any jobs, but if done well, it could be an excellent way to hone your skills and get paid for it. Check out Worker or Elance for opportunities; some people even turn writing into full-time careers using these websites.
