Cavities or dental cavities are the holes that are found in the hard surface of the teeth. These tiny holes are caused by bacteria that are on the surface of the teeth whivh create acid from sugar. one of such known bacteria is the streptococcus mutans. When this bacterium does is to form a sticky fim otherwise called plaque. So the acids in this plaque will then remove minerals from the enamel of the teeth. This bring about the holes in the enamel, so when it begins to spread to the dentin layer which is below the enamel ofcourse a cavity will form.

So how can you remedy this problem at home

· Start by chewing only sugar-free gum to reduce the presence of the bacteria

· Take more of vitamin D to aid in absorbing the calcium from the food you consume

· Try brushing your teeth always with fluoride toothpaste to aid in preventing cavities

· Reduce or cut away totally sugary foods in your diet. With reduced sugar your enamel will remineralize

Cavities are a common oral health problem, and they can be a real pain—literally!

But did you know that there are plenty of ways to help prevent cavities naturally? Whether you want an alternative to store-bought mouthwashes or other treatments, or if you just want to save money on dental appointments, here are five home remedies to help keep your smile bright:

1. Clove oil

Clove oil is both anti-inflammatory and antibacterial, making it a great treatment for cavities. It also has pain-relieving properties. You can use clove oil to make a toothpaste by mixing in about 10 drops with about 3 tablespoons of coconut oil and 3 tablespoons of baking soda. This will result in a paste that can be used daily for brushing your teeth. You can also dab clove oil directly onto the affected area with a cotton swab. Either way, you should see results within three days.

2. Garlic

Another antibacterial ingredient, garlic has been found to have excellent antimicrobial properties because of its main compound allicin, which makes it especially effective against bacteria in the mouth. One study found that the topical application of raw garlic was able to completely eliminate cavity-causing bacteria in in the mouth.
