Why Should You Use a Custom Domain for Your Blog or Website

Picture entering Google's IP address rather than its domain name each time you needed to access the site. Indeed, the going would grow tiresome. It is a relief that we can visit any website we choose without knowing its IP address. We refer to it by its domain name rather. In addition to serving as a sort of "street address" for blogs or websites, a unique domain name also helps with navigation by making it easier to remember which websites belong to which people. Should you like to have your own blog or website, get a custom domain. Here are some of the reasons why.

It is Unforgettable
Forgetting things that are not easily recalled is a human trait. Pick a domain name for your blog or website that is both memorable and meaningful to you as the creator and your site's audience. The domain name you choose will be the only piece of information your "followers" will have to remember about you.

Setup a Legitimate Email Address
By registering your own domain name, you can set up a credible business e-mail account. Using one will increase the respectability of your blog and inspire trust in your readers.

Increase your Blog or Website's Page Rank
The number and quality of inbound links to a blog entry are two of the most important factors in determining where that post will ultimately land in search engine results. This is why you should use a custom domain for your blog or website. Different search engines will not treat your blog or website as a subdomain and instead count all your backlinks as votes for the quality of your blog or website as a whole, which increase your blog or website's page rank.

Make sure your custom domain name is short and unique.

Even though you can create a free blog and you can still make money from free blogs, you need to create a blog by buying a custom domain and web hosting. A domain and hosting cost money and you might have to spend around $35 for the first year and might not make any money even for the entire year. However, if you are passionate and you strongly believe blogging pays in the long run, you need to create a self-hosted blog. When you have a self-hosted blog, building search engine rank and traffic will be somewhat easier. You can also build better revenue.

If you are just getting started and your budget is tight, there is nothing bad with using a free blogging platform like Wix and WordPress to hone your writing skills and familiarize yourself with blog management rather than focusing on making money right away. The switch to self-hosting your blog is necessary if you intend to turn it into a money-making venture, so take that into account. I started with Blogspot a couple of years back. Then I decided to set up a WordPress blog so I can move it to a domain website without any problem. It was a good move.
