What can a country do before stopping importation of goods?

The word importation means movement of goods or product from one country in to another country for example Movement of good from China to Nigeria.
Before any move to stop important I believe there should be enough or adequate supply or production of that goods or product in the country but reverse is the case now a days. And if this mistake occure there will famine in the country.please let us rob mind together on this issue what could be way out.

Before any country decides to stop the importation of a particular goods,they need to carry out a survey that would ensure that the particular good is already readily available and there won't be shortage of supply after stopping its importation. The government can also try to ensure that they produce those goods themselves.

There are stuffs that people need on daily basis to produce their own product and if they can't source it locally, they will have to look elsewhere. It is very simple, all they need to do is to pass a law in their national assembly banning the said product from entering the country and then instruct the various enforcement agencies to act on this Law. Last 2 years, the Nigerian government banned the importation of Rice and also closed her borders. So you see it really simple for a country to stop the importation of goods. That is why it is pertinent for a business owner to always be abreast of latest happenings in the country.

Well like the poster said there must be a provision of the ban imported goods already in the host country. Nigerian government ban the importation of rice only for her to be giving us sub-standard rice that is literally low to what we are given to eat already... Proper market survey is important and the consideration 9f the poor citizens must be put into consideration... Tomato paste was ban in ghana only for the government to start mass production of it and this have help them elevated poverty to some extent.
