First of all, for an individual or group of people to manage a Poultry farm, there is a need for thoroughly understanding on Poultry. It is of Paramount importance for you to know their physiology, anatomy and breeding system.

The manager should have a good efficiency of handling capital, meaning that the capital should be used appropriately for optimum production.
In addition to that for efficient management they should be a proper feeding system. They poultry should be fed appropriately based on their nutritional requirement. They should also be proper record keeping for detection of unhealthy poultry i.e the ones infected with disease.

Poultry farming entails the raising of domesticated birds for meat, eggs, and feathers production.
Proper management of a poultry farm can be carried out by one who has learnt the rudiments of this business.
To properly manage a poultry business, the following should be taken note of:
1) good housing condition: no matter the housing system provided for your poultry, be it a free range, fold, deep litter or battery cage, it should be in good condition all the time. The poultry litter should be removed as often as possible to avoid spread of diseases, their water and feeding troughs should be washed daily, light should be provided especially for chicks, and the site should be void of pests.
2) isolate sick birds: sick birds should be first isolated from the others and treated, dead ones should be removed and buried to avoid spread of diseases. This way, losses are reduced.
3) proper record keeping: it is important to keep inventory of all the activities that take place on your farm. This will help you keep tab on the progress or success of the business. With record keeping, you will know if you are running a loss or profit.
With these few tips, I think one can successfully manage a poultry buisjess.

Poultry happens to be one of those business that requires maximum attention from the person running it because chickens are not something that you can just turn your back on and expect them to grow anyway. They are not like other animals, the point is they are fragile. They get sick easily, they can die with just little sickness, especially the ones that was bred, in my place we call them AGRICS. And these are the ones that people deal with in most cases. The main thing that is needed to be known is that it require so much time and attention in order to rear them successfully, so you have to be prepared for it if you are interested in it

Running a poultry farm can be really hard because it brings many challenges. One of the biggest challenge is the capital. Even though you can start a poultry farm with small capital, running and managing it would require a huge amount of capital due to miscellaneous expenses involved with it. Apart from that, you must also need to make sure that your chickens are healthy and you must possess good knowledge about what kind of medicines should be used and I think that this is where experience could play a big role. Many poultry farm owners usually hire good doctors and buy high-qualify food for the chicken.

Despite all this, chicken raised in the poultry farm are not considered hygienic. Home-raised chicken are far much better, but it all depends on how you raise the chickens. Maintenance of the farm is also very important. You must make sure that the place is clean and well-maintained. You must also make sure that chickens are well-fed and they are not dehydrated. You may even need to hire a caretaker and some other people who would take care of chickens. Since home-raised chickens are much better, you must make sure that you offer such kind of environment to chickens.

Managing a poultry farm requires a lot of strategy to have an effective productivity. From the point of purchase, you must be able to decipher the best product. Some people do not know that there are different breeds or species of birds. There are some which are easily prone to flu and there are others that can withstand due to their specie and antibodies. Managing a poultry would determine patience and care, it is just like a mother nursing her new born child. The budget should be ascertained , miscellaneous for unforeseen circumstances should be budgeted as well. The house which the birds would be put should be in a conducive environment. It does not matter if they are animals, they deserve to be treated with care. At their infant stage, lighting should be constantly present to keep them warm especially during rainy season or in areas where it is normally cold. The quantity of food given to them on daily basis would determine their fast growth and weight. They should be fed well not minding the high cost of feed, it could always be included at the point of sales. Finally, the poultry farmer should be a keen observer to note when even one chick is acting abnormal, so it won't spread to the rest.

I have been running a poultry farm for years now in different operations ranging from raising layer birds, broilers and even hybrids. And one thing that I have come to discover to be vital in any poultry farm operation is feed conversion ratio.

In an era where poultry feed is very expensive, you have to ensure that every gram of feed you give to your birds is optimally converted to meat or eggs as the case may be. And the factors that contribute to a good FCR is quality feed and some good management practices. Get FCR right and your cost of production would be low for you to sell at market price and make maximal profits.
