Buying or siting your property in a crime prone areas should be a big no for you. You might just be wasting your money if you buy one from such area because you might just be compounding your problem.

if you are buying it as an income property you might not always get renters because no body wants to live next door to a hot spot of criminal activity. So it is expedient that you check well before doing a purchase.

So how can you easily check the crime rate of an area

Check with the local police
The information unit of the police force do have information on crime areas since it is their job. So you check in with them for detailed information

Public library
You can also check in with your local public library as they should also have accurate crime statistics for neighborhoods. you would need to get information about the rates for vandalism in the area.

Physical inspection
You should also physically assess the area for petty crimes and see if the criminal activity is on the rise there. The frequency of a police presence in your neighborhood should give you a clue about the situation of crime in the area.
