Many people may assume that it could take at least four years to achieve engineering degree at the basic level. Pursuing a mechanical engineering degree may not be that easy at all and it is one of the most challenging things. Having said that, you may get a degree at a college-level and then you may need to pursue another degree at the university-level. Having said that, at that point, there could be many students who may simply drop out. Many people may also pursue a degree at a really later stages of their life. So, how much time does it actually take to become a mechanical engineer?

On average, it takes about five years to study for a qualification to be inducted as an engineer by the Engineering Council in my country. It might take a further 3 years of field experience to be able to fully practice as a mechanical engineer.

It should be noted that one doesn't need any other qualification apart from the Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering to practice as a mechanical engineer. If you decide to go for further studies, it should be just to enter the academia. A career in mechanical engineering opens doors for a person in various industries including automobile industry.

In order to become a mechanical engineer, one must first complete a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, which typically takes four years to complete. During this time, students will take courses in mathematics, physics, materials science, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and other related subjects.

After completing their bachelor's degree, many aspiring mechanical engineers choose to pursue further education or gain practical experience through internships or entry-level positions. Some may choose to pursue a master's degree or even a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering in order to specialise in a particular area of the field.
