The newborn babies can not fight infections well. Therefore , bacteria that enter the baby's skin or cord at the time of birth often get in to the blood and spread through his whole body.
Since this takes a day or two ,septicemia is most common after the second day of life.
SIGNS:
Signs that you can notice when the baby's is been infected by the bacteria is that:
- The baby will not be able to suck well
- The baby's body will be pale
-The baby will be vomiting
- Swolline of the belly
- The baby's body or skin turn yellow.
When you suspect septicemia in the newborn:
Antibiotics are needed urgently. Get medical help, or get to a center where regular injections can be given.
