I think that "product upgrading" should be viewed in a proper content. There are are many companies that upgrade the looks and the packaging of the product. However, they do not actually change the quality of the product. There are many food companies that change the packaging of the product in a great manner, but they do not alter the taste or the quality of the food. I think that there are many advantages and disadvantages of "altering" the quality or the taste of the food products. First of all, a good product manufacturer must understand the needs and taste of consumers.

You might like the new taste of the product but this does not necessarily mean that each and every consumer also likes it. If you change the whole taste of the product, it is quite possible that consumers may never like it! So changing things could actually do more harm than good. This is why many companies launch "alternative products" or a different version of the same product and I believe that this is also a risky decision for the investor. This is because you might invest and produce a newer version of the product and launch it in the market, but people may not like it. This may lead to loss of capital that was spent for stock management and manufacturing.
