It is not uncommon to see people working offline in most African countries being underpaid. Most of them are not really employed but underemployed where they are paid lesser than what they give out. Some employers of labour despite paying meagre money still maltreat and delay salaries of their workers. The following may be the reasons for the arrant behavior.
Most employers of labour do not know how to differentiate between servant and slaves. They treat their workers just as if they were slaves. Most times, they delay their salaries and let them see their salaries as privilege instead of right.
There is no much help from government, there is no workers union. If government makes it mandatory for private workers not to pay below certain amount of money, there may be reduction in the ways owners maltreat their workers unjustly.
Most workers do not even know their rights. Thru see their employers as bosses and not really as contractors who will pay them for the jobs they do and whom may surfer if the the works are left undone.
Workers are not paid wages but salary. I wish people are paid in wages where they will be calculating the money to be received by workers based on hours and not days.
