When the supply runs out

There is a small kiosk by the roadside that sells boiled corn. We always stop to buy. Boiled corn is a nice snack while traveling to our destination. During the rainy season the kiosk was still there but there was no boiled corn. It is off season for the crops so there is no corn. What the kiosk has are fruits like pineapple and small bananas. We also bought some fruits. Come to think of it, that vendor has the brains to think of an alternative when the supply runs out. There is no corn anywhere in the country so he shifted his products to fruits which are also good to sell by the roadside. Vehicles would surely stop when the fruits are hanging by the side of the kiosk especially the ripening bunch of bananas.

This reminds me of a store that sells Korean goods. My wife's favorite is their melon ice cream. One time there was no supply and we were surprised to see the freezer with local ice cream. The owner said that it is better to sell the local ice cream instead of showing to customers an empty freezer. That makes sense to me for an empty rack may give a bad impression.

There are at times when there won't be much supply. This can happen for many reasons. It may be as a result of too much demand which later cause the goods or the products to run out of stocks or whether there is limited production of the goods from the manufacturer.

What should we do in a situation like this? First, we need to find alternative to such a product rather than telling customers that we don't have the goods. Though, customers have preference, but they can still be persuaded to buy what we have if we are good at convincing people..

There should be need to study the trend of particular product. The goods or even products that enjoy much demand from the people should be put much consideration on. There is need to have warehouses for such goods or storage facilities in case they are seasonal products.

Seasonal items have a certain time of benefits, thus shifting goods is a wonderful idea for a vendor.

It makes sense to rotate a store's products if they are mostly seasonal. Some businesses will sell a combination of seasonal and non-seasonal items on a regular basis. The non-seasonal items serve as the standard products in such cases and they help bring in regular patronage for the business. When corn supplies are down, they tend to be expensive. Some vendors would have tried offering shredded canned corn with flavorings as an alternative to boiled corn. They're popular among kids and teens as well as the older generations and they have stable prices throughout the year. It's also sensible to offer alternative products when the mainstream products are unavailable. They can even prove to be as popular and as profitable as the main products and thus help widen a store's customer base.
