Glossophobia is a fear about talking in front of others. It's also known as the "glossophobia complex", "glossophobia anxiety disorder", or "public speaking phobia". For individuals that have it, this phobia can be extremely crippling and even fatal. The phrase's meaning in Greek is "a pathological phobia of talking in public."

The Greeks believed that a person who had glossophobia would literally die if they spoke in public. They believed that a person with this fear would fall into fits and convulsions, either just before or during a speech.

Glossophobia is a term that refers to an unreasonable fear of speaking in front of others in modern psychology. The fear can be triggered by any type of situation where there is a risk of self-consciousness or humiliation, such as giving a speech, making a presentation at work, or giving a presentation to students in school.
