Irrespective of what aspect of poultry you intend to specialize in, you’ll need to properly plan before you start. Some of the necessary considerations when planning include
1. Land/space: You can start at your backyard but if you want to rear birds commercially you’ll need to use a large area.
2. Waste disposal: You need to put in place a proper waste disposal system for disposing poultry droppings.
3. Water source: There should be access to a clean water source for your birds.
4. Light source: Birds need lighting and heat. You can use lamp source as your light/heat source in the absence of electricity.
5. Storage space: It is important that you have a place where you can store your egs, vaccines and bird feeds.
6. Feeding: Averagely, a broiler chick may consume 20kg for it first 6 weeks. On the other hand, the layer chick consumes about 20kg within its first 10 weeks. These are important factors when buying the feeds.
7. Housing: The type of housing you use for poultry farming is dependent on many factors. You can either use the free range system, the deep litter system or the battery cage. In the free range system , the birds are allowed to move freely within a defined area. This is a very basic method of farming. If you’re planning on rearing your birds for commercial purpose then you’ll need to use a better housing system.
Also, there’s the deep litter system in which the birds are housed in a building. The floor is layered with saw dust and the birds all stay within this confinement. Although this housing metohd can be used for commercial rearing, it has some disadvantage. For instance, when there’s a disease outbreak, it’s a bit difficult isolating the affected birds.
Finally, there’s the best and most expensive system which is the battery cage system. In this case, the birds are kept in cages and are classified based on their sex and type. Broilers and layers are kept in separate confinements/ male and female are also separated.
Although poultry farming is a very lucrative business, there are some risks associated with this business. However, some of these like disease outbreak this can be mitigated by vaccination, adequate supervision and proper housing.
Ideally, proper supervision can enable the farmer spot the disease quickly and isolated the bird(s) affected to prevent further spread. On the other hand, a housing system like the battery cage helps to prevent quick spread of poultry diseases

You have stated it all.
Before the commencement of any business, proper planning has to be carried out in order to ensure its success.
A poultry business is a lucrative one if effectively managed. Before starting a poultry business, you need to have a background knowledge on the business. You can even seek tutelage from a poultry farmer.
Source for capital: after doing a market survey, you would be able to know the amount of money required to start the business and keep it running.
Choose a good site: the site chosen for a poultry farm should be not so close to residential buildings because of the poultry dung. The site should be provided a source of light and water supply. Farmers can even sell the poultry dung to those cultivating crops.
Housing and equipment: you can decide to choose a housing system based on the type of poultry. A battery cage system would go well for layers so the eggs can be better collected. Get feeding and water troughs, drugs and poultry feeds.
Get the right stock: endeavor to get the right chick stock for your business. There are stocks that take long to reach marketable size and at such may consume a lot of resources, there are others that are too susceptible to environmental changes. Ensure to make enquiry and get the best stock.

There are necessary precautions and procedures to put in place before starting a poultry farm. You should ensure that you have a comfortable space where they can feel comfortable. You should determine the type of products, either; Broilers, layers or Cocks. You should know the type of products and align it with the interest of the inhabitants within the locations so you can easily make sales. Also, it would be best if you can have a trusted supplier who would supply you with the best products. For Broilers which I have handled, they have different species of birds and they can either withstand or could be vulnerable at any slight flu. The abode or the farm should be fumigated and sealed properly to avoid pests or animals like; cats, rats and snakes. The farm should be devoid of any straps that could injure or trap the chickens to death unknowingly to the poultry rearer. There farm should be lightened according to their growth level. For instance, when they are still small chick, lights should be frequently on especially if the location is in riverine areas but when they are matured, the lighting level should be reduced so it does not cause overheating. You should endeavour to change their water cans and refill new ones and feed them promptly.

This indeed a very lucrative business in my country as at this time and season, people are truly struggling to get poultry foods like chicken and eggs and other class of poultry foods, this is happening as a result of the fact that the government placed a ban on all foreign produce that is related to poultry foods and even rice. For this reason those things became from scare as the government didn't make any provision for the shortage and the production on ground was not enough to cater for the needs of over two hundred million Nigerians that rely heavily on what they get from this poultry foods. Honestly this also contributed to the rate of inflation we are currently experiencing in the country today and everyone is suffering. But if one tends to what to seize the opportunity this ban that was placed by the government had brought us then we will quickly tap in and get a space where you can house the quantity of beds you have to ability to afford. Another very crucial thing to consider is their feeds and they will also require clean water and their vitamins that must be administered from time to time.
