Ability to draw: If you can draw with a pencil, canvas, and oil, you would be able to make a successful career in graphics design since it is just an upgrade of the normal hand painting.
Ability to create something from nothing: You must be creative and have a wild imagination. Sometimes clients expect you to create concepts for them.
A good understanding of color combinations: You must know how colors can be combined to create desired effects. There are colors that cannit go together. If you have this basic understanding of color combinations, you would surely have a good career in graphics design.

You have a point there, though i have seen some graphic designers who are not really good at drawing but they are doing pretty well. Though drawing is an added advantage when it comes to graphic design. I think the major skill set one needs when it comes to graphic designing is your creative ability. People assume creativity is a skill that cannot be learnt but the truth is you can also learn to be creative when you put your mind to it. One way to increase your creativity is by simply going through the works of others, recreate their designs, then add little touches until the designs no longer looks like theirs, then it becomes your design.
