Should you handover complete running of a business to a manager?

Most small and medium businesses have managers that help to run the day-to-day operation of the business. In some businesses, these managers are allowed complete freedom to make decisions about the business without interference from the owners of the business. Is it the right approach to allow the managers of a business complete autonomy?

I think it is the best thing for business managers to have complete autonomy because it helps to bring out their creativity in them. This is especially true when you have young and vibrant managers that have fresh ideas and innovations to bring to the organization.

On the other hand, you don't hand over everything to the managers till it gets to the point of it looking like negligence. As the business owner, you need to supervise but not interfere. You only come in when it seems the management are going in the wrong direction and oace. What do you think? Should business owners still be putting stringent hands on a business even when they have competent managers?

While it can be very good for business managers to have their own opportunity to run the business as they deem fit, it is also important that you serve as a guide for them especially if you are not sure about their competency in the business. Infact, no matter how skilled a manager is, it's important that the owner keeps an eye on it and knows exactly how the business is run.

People can become lax overtime, or you might have a great idea to help the business grows that they've not thought of.

It's similar to how a manger should also treat other staff. They shouldn't be too strict, but encourage participation and create an ideal working environment where the employees can thrive, and so will the business.

It's more common though in my part of the world to see owners who don't let anyone run their business, and they do their work just fine too.

It is not necessarily mandatory for the owner of the business organisation to be the manager of the business organisation because in today's world the commercial activity of management is not a career perfect by every individual who want to establish a business. Many individuals go to tertiary schools of education to study management as a career or job in order to come out as a qualified business manager to manage businesses not to establish businesses. Indeed there and some businesses in which the manager is totally separated from the owner. But the owner of the business organisation definitely have power over the manager as he is going to be the one to employ the service of the manager to manage all monetary affairs going on in the business organisation possibly during his or her absence.

In most other situation the business owner is called the executive director or CEO while the manager may be called the director of the business organisation. During the employment stage of a business manager, it is totally necessary that the business owner endeavours that the manager should be a qualified responsible trained and experienced individual. That possibly is attested to the fact that management is a very important parts of business success and prosperity.

I think even if the managers are to have a considerable amount of control over the business, the owner must have the ultimate control and I have seen situations whereby owners of Businesses have people who they think they can trust as managers and so they give them total control over everything including the decision making processes and at the end of the day, they end up getting cheated by the managers whom they so much trust.

That makes me think that it is very important to still have some level of control and overseeing even when you have a business manager and this may not necessarily be like you won't give the manager the permission to run somethings based on his thoughts but you must also be a factor when it comes to decision making and you most constantly check in to see the business and go through the progress it is making.
