For me people carry out different business activities for various reasons and purposes.
Some of the main reasons are these;
Provision of income/profit
Most businessmen engage in Businesses with the aim of making profits. Normally when business are conducted they generate profits. Therefore the business owners can use the profits as their income for paying their bills and paying for them some other expenses in life.
Provision of goods and services
Businessmen tend to be involved in business activities for them to avail goods and services to the society. However upon providing the goods and services to the consumers they tend to solve the customers problems at the same time. This is through the sense that people can get what they needed with an ease.
To create jobs and employment opportunities
However the individuals that are involved in the business activities are subsequently employed by the business. They However do the jobs like selling of goods direct to the consumers, consulting, advising among others.
Time utilisation
Some people who are very idle and don't have anything to do tend to start Businesses inorder for them to utilize their spare time. Therefore they get used to the time wasted when they had absolutely nothing to do with their time.
