A business needs to be planned properly before any operation begins such as preparing a budget of intending cost incurred and money generated at the end, thinking of location to station the business, budgeting of numbers of staff required, make decisions on how to utilize the capital or available resources and all the likes. Therefore a business needs to prepare for challenges that may come when operating and also prepare for competition.

You are right, one can't just decide to start up a business without a proper plan of the business. A good business plan of how the business is going to be set up is needed for a business to be successful. A good business plan should include things like;

• How to get capital to start up the business and also how to get funds to manage the business. A business cannot do well without money to fund the business. A source or sources of funds for the business should be stated in the business plan.
• Location of the business. A business plan should contain plans for the business location.
• Staffing of the business. A business plan should contain how many staffs to employ at first and as time goes on, how to get funds to pay the staffs and others.
