Positive and negative impacts of the Nigerian oil sector.

The Nigerian oil sector has been in establishment for several numbers of years . To be more elaborate all exploration in Nigeria begin in the year 1908 by a German company called The butman corporation , and since then till date petroleum has remained a major source of government revenue in Nigeria . We must know the positive contributions of petroleum to Nigerian economy some of which include :

* Government revenue : the existence of petroleum has contributed greatly to the major source of revenue available to the government in Nigeria .

* Employment : because of the existence of petroleum in Nigeria the generation of employment by the petroleum industry has also aid the existence of job opportunities to various categories of people example geologist and oil analyst , chemical engineers , and , petroleum engineers etc .

But yet does petroleum have any negative effect on the Nigerian economy of course it does let's consider some of these negative effects :

* Environmental pollution : due to the corrosive and pungent smell of crude oil , it exploration has led to serious environmental pollution of land air and water especially in niger-Delta region of Nigeria .

* Agriculture negelection : we all know that agriculture used to be the major source of revenue in Nigeria . But when petroleum was later discovered in Nigeria agriculture in itself has been neglected by the Nigerian govt , also other sectors who initially have relevance in the Nigerian economy was also neglected as well .

If the Nigerian government made proper utilisation of all the resources that is available in this country they could have created a very high standard of living for every citizen of the country , but here they are not interested to do so . They are just interested to embezzled the money into their own private account for their own personal use thereby neglecting the people they were meant to take care of .

All these things are what brought tears into the eyes of so many people because they are not opportuned to enjoy the resources that natures has provided in their country.

I don't even know why some Nigerian politicians are so careless about the humans to the point that they are just only careful about their generation only .

A lot of countries are using the natural resources they have to improve their country whereas here we have a lot of natural resources but yet we are among one of the most poorest country in the world with the highest level of unemployment.

New inventions are coming out and it is possible that our crude oil will be useless in the future , I really wonder what the Nigerian government will do .
