According to the Ethereum Foundation, the information that the merger will reduce gas charges is untrue.

For a long time, promoters of ETH 2.0 have been trumpeting like elephants that after merge, ETH will become gas-free or very low-fee like other PoS cryptos. But now, since the announcement of the Ethereum foundation, everyone is in a quandary.

GAS Price
According to the Ethereum Foundation, gas are a product of the demand for the network relative to the capacity of the network, and merge has no effect on it.

Merge Effect
The merge will change the consensus mechanism, which will transition from PoW (Proof of Work) to PoS (Proof of Stake), but it will not expand the Ethereum network capacity, so it won't reduce gas fees.

Conclusion
Although the Ethereum Foundation does not have an elephant-like trunk to fill with water, its announcement has washed away all of the ETH 2.0 campaigners' efforts, Ethereum price also dropped 8%.
