There are many fashion designers out there but not all of them will have the necessary knowledge for design and may at times need help from persons who are experts or are talented in that field.
You can work as a fashion designer for your fabrics and people will also but your design in order to as well apply them. You can also be invited to be designing for some firms etc.
Locally you can make a lot from this in your area when you become famous and people who want to see clothes may come to you for designing which they will even use to give to the tailor who will sew it

Yes, I think that fabric designing is a very good method of making money. People love wearing designer clothes and so you have great market to tap into. So many people these days are moving away from wearing new clothes and going for hand made designer clothes because of their uniqueness.

Fashion and design is a skill that you can learn in school. But sometimes, one just has the gift of designing as a talent. If you are talented in it, then you can start it anytime. But still you will need to learn other skills like marketing and selling. If you are not talented, then there is school for you to learn and gain this skill.

Every business thrives in having a good customer base and ability to keep more coming. Therefore, as a fabric designer, you will have to know exactly what to do in order to have enough customers. Such as providing quality products, good customer service and extensive advertisement.
