Ivan Chebeskov, a Russian Finance Ministry employee, has spoken out against the proposed ban on cryptocurrency transactions in Russia.

Russia may be relaxing its attitude on cryptocurrency, according to unexpected statements made by the Russian director of financial policy. Ivan Chebeskov, a director at the Ministry of Finance, has stated that rather than outlawing crypto, it should be regulated.

His support comes in reaction to the Russian central bank's proposal to outlaw crypto mining and trading completely.

According to Chebeskov, prohibiting cryptocurrency mining and activities will cause the country to fall behind in the global tech economy. Instead, the minister urged that cryptocurrencies be regulated:

"We need to give these technologies a chance to mature." The Ministry of Finance is actively involved in the development of legislative initiatives to regulate this market in this regard."
The remarks were delivered at the RBC cryptocurrency conference on Tuesday. According to Chebeskov, the Russian ministry has drafted a plan for the regulation of digital assets and is awaiting the government's response.

Chebeskov had a successful career working for Russian and European financial institutions before joining the Kremlin. He was a student in Texas, a pro-Bitcoin state, and has already spoken out in support of digital currencies.
