Is going to school all about securing a job?

These days, there is a kind of orientation going on where people are advised to focused on learning a skill instead of stressing themselves about going to school, because it is believed that there are no longer jobs for graduates so it is almost useless going to school.
Things like this make me to wonder if actually going to school is with the sole aim of securing a job. There are some people who have the money already, but would still decide to go to school because they are interested in acquiring more knowledge.
Going to school also helps one to become civilized in the society, Because you already have exposure of how life is outside where you grew up.
I don't think going to school is all about securing a job, how about you?

Yeah going to school is all about securing a job.schools are basically teaching us how to become a good employee. basically the way the educational system makes us to think alike to make money you have to go to school make good grades seek employment and start earning but it shouldn't be like that.people are been advised to learn skills because they know the system aint working anymore

In the past, yes but nowadays it's just to fulfill the dreams of our parents especially the ones that is so bent on studying a professional course. But going to school doesn't mean you are all about a white collar job, some people go to school because they have nothing doing at home, some go to school just to improve on themselves and they way they think. Heck, some people even go to school just for business purposes. Point being that not everybody goes to school because of a job. You'd be surprised some people go to school just to look cool.

This is the main reason that most people go to school these days. They see schools as an avenue through which after graduation one can sit for a job and probably maybe works for some time and start up their own business, This is almost all graduates plans and only very few of them actually actualize these plans leaving a very large percentage of them to be jobless at the end of the day. This is the kind of pathetic lifestyle that most people go through in this day and age having a very poor and low mentality about what schooling should be all about and not what they think that it is all about.

This is a good question and one that I have some life experience of. I have a daughter that did very badly at school. She didn't like it and was not allowed to take exams at the end because they thought she would not pass any. She did a vocational certificate instead. When she left school she quickly learned she was not going to get a good job without qualifications so she went into adult education, got the necessary exams and landed herself a really well paid job.

My partner's sister never went to school and came out with nothing. She is in her 40s now and completed an open university course and manages a care home. Their brother was not interested in school and went into the marines. He is now a highly paid deep sea diver.

Education is really important but just because you don't do well at school it doesn't have to be the end. Many people do well after they leave when they are more mature and have a better idea of what they want to do.

There is definitely a need for a reorientation so that the younger generation should not end up frustrated after realizing that there are no longer jobs available, going to school should be with the purpose of acquiring knowledge that would help you to contribute your quota to your society and the country as a whole.

Definitely yes, our aim is to go school and after we graduate from the school we will be able to use the certificate obtained to secure a job but the case is not what it seems to be in Nigeria. Actually, the school did not promise job what I think school is meant to be is to discover yourself to be able to think critically and to manage the little resources you have at your reach for maximum output.
