How to Install Let’s Encrypt SSL Certificate

Secure Sockets Layer or SSL is a security certificate that encrypts and decrypts data in a website. SSL certificates are must to secure your website from data theft (for example, securing payment information on your website). However, SSL costs money and by using SSL on your website, it will increase your website running cost.

Interestingly, there is a company that provides SSL for free. You can get a free SSL from Let’s Encrypt.

A lot of web hosts offer free SSL from SSL. Therefore, if your web host provides free SSL, you do not have to install certificate manually. However, if your host does not support Let’s Encrypt, you will have to do it manually.

If you are running a wordpress site, you can find plugins to use Let’s Encrypt SSL. IN order to do so, you will have to install the plugin, activate the plugin and add the TXT file on the root of your domain. If you don’t know how to do it, the plugin you will be using will provide tips on its documentation.

If your web host supports Let's Encrypt, installing Let's Encrypt certificate would not be too hard, it is just a matter of a few clicks. If you are running a wordpress site and if your web host does not support Let's Encrypt, you can use free Let's encrypt plugin and easily install SSL on your site. However, if you are using Let's encrypto for websites not using wordpress, it might be really difficult to install let's encrypto if you do not have prior experience. If you want DV certificate, it is fine to use Let's Encrypt, but you need to use other kinds of certificates, Let's Encrypt would not be enough

Certbot automatically talks to Let's Encrypt and makes the certificate files. Use the instructions to set up auto-renewal and place the certificate. This lets you use HTTPS access. For some internet servers or websites, extra setup of the certificate may be needed. Use the Certbot instructions for help that matches your situation.
