What is the best way to defend you when the pay range is unusually large for the post you wish to apply for? And, is it better to be direct or refined? Pay transparency laws vary from state to state, but in a nutshell, they require employers to disclose salary information, such as salary ranges, in job advertisements or in offers to candidates.
The goal is to create more visibility into pay practices and help reduce gender and racial pay gaps. Experts say before these laws existed, compensation was like a mysterious black box. Generally, job seekers didn’t know what comparable employees earned, and how the employers compared salaries to the rest of the market. Having a salary range eliminates some of those unknowns.
