How to deal with wrongful job termination

If you have been wrongfully terminated from your job, there are a few things you can do to protect yourself.

First, contact the company’s human resources department and ask them to tell you what the company policy is on wrongful termination. If they don’t have a written policy it could mean that they will not defend you in court if you decide to pursue legal action against them.

Next, talk to an employment lawyer who can advise you on whether or not it makes sense for you to file a lawsuit against your former employer. If a lawsuit is worth pursuing, it may be better in the long run to settle out of court than spend years defending yourself in court.

If a lawsuit is out of the question, consider taking other steps such as contacting your local Office of Labor Standards Enforcement (OLSE) or filing complaints with the EEOC or other agencies like Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). You can also contact the local news media and tell them about what happened at work so that other employees won’t feel compelled to keep quiet about similar issues at their place of employment.
