You can consider yourself a successful freelancer only when you have a lot of customers in your pocket who regularly order from you. When you have pocket customers, you will never have a dearth of jobs, and when you are loaded with freelancing contracts, money will be flowing and you will be making consistent income. You can only make a consistent income from freelancing if you have long-term customers who order from you repeatedly.

So, how can you build long-term customers? Or, let’s say how can you convert your first-time customers into a long time customers?

Your first-time customer will buy again from you only on one condition i.e. you have offered quality service for a comparatively lower price. When you offer quality service for a relatively lower price, your customers will be satisfied with your service and when they are satisfied, they will consider buying from you again.

Always ensure that your customers are satisfied, and you ensure customer satisfaction by providing high-quality services.

That is not even a problem to some people , it will mostly depend on your strategy you are using to attract your clients for your business that will determine.
A lot of people have established different business for themselves but they may be using different strategy to attract more people to their business.
I think one of the most important strategy you can use to attract more people to your business is by providing high-quality products. Higher quality product in the sense that you don't really have to spend money to produce so much but it must be more than what a standard market is offering , at least people will understand this and will be more interested to patronize you.

If this may not be working then you should reduce the price of your product a little bit lower than what the standard market are offering. This is also a good marketing strategy.

I think more than anything else, your ability to deliver professionally in your first dealing with a customer would determine if that customer would patronize you for a long time. As a freelancer, if you can not deliver according to specifications, the client won't give you jobs again. There are no two ways about that. Also, if you are not able to deliver on time, the customer would likely not call you again for other gigs. Quality and speed of delivery are the two things that retain a customer to your service as a freelancer in particular and a business person in general.

Other qualities also come to play but they are on a minor level. That's not to say they are not important. They are. Qualities like communication ability, and follow-up. All these could be the determining factors that can make you retain customers. Customers are emotional in nature
