Some of them, like those dedicated to cryptocurrency operations ("mining") appear to require very powerful and energy consuming processors that have to work continuosly making calculations to maintain the fiability of transactions. In my country, recent power shortages in the cities are attributed to uncontrolled cryptocurrency mining. Some fundamented arguments for this assertion?
