General insurance Formal Sector Social Health Insurance Programme

This programme covers employees of the formal sectors i.e the public sector and organized organized private sector. It is mandatory for any organization with ten (10) or more employees.

HEALTH CARE BENEFITS
(1) Outpatient care (including consumables)

(2) Prescribed drugs as contained in the NHIS Essential Drug list.

(3) Diagnostic Tests as contained in NHIS Diagnostic Test List.

(4) Antenatal Care

(5) Maternity Care for up to four(4) live births for every insured person.

(6)Post natal Care

(7) Routine Immunization as contained in the National Programme on Immunization.

(8) Family Planning

(9) Consultation with a defined range of specialists e.g
Physicians and surgeons etc.

(10) Hospital Care in a public or private hospital in a standard ward during a stated duration if stay, for physical or mental disorders.

(11) Eye examination and care excluding tests for, and actual provision of spectacles.

(12) Dental care i.e pain relief and treatment.

This is very important but I am not sure if this is somehow associated with or under insurance generally, or probably related to health insurance. The health care benefits made it more attractive to clients maybe the premium payment could scares the insured from getting it but if an agent should get involved he might be successful in convincing his clients to get one

I don't think all companies in my country cover this. I can vouch for governemnt owned businesses and not private owned business. And to be frank, this is a welcomed development where the health of the workers would be paramount to the owner of any business but most business owner don't care about the welfarism of their workers.

I am not really sure what I understood but it sounded like health insurance is compulsory for any business organization to buy once they have up to or more ten workers. Maybe I didn’t hear it clearly but all the same it is very important for a company to get this for their employees incase of any hazard
