There are many reasons why tooth cavities form in our mouths, but the most common are:

1. Not flossing or brushing your teeth enough (about twice a day) to remove plaque that has accumulated on your teeth and gums. Plaque is a sticky substance that forms between the teeth, which can harden into tartar if left over time. If you don't remove this plaque regularly, it will eventually turn into tartar and form holes in your teeth.

2. Drinking a lot of sugary beverages, like soda, juice or sports drinks. These drinks contain sugar that dissolves easily in water and can lead to tooth decay. It's especially important to avoid drinking too much soda if you have braces because it can cause tooth decay around brackets and wires that hold them in place.

3. Eating foods high in acid such as citrus fruits or tomatoes. Acidic foods can erode enamel on your teeth, making them vulnerable to decay.
