Division of labour occurs when a production activity, process or a job is divided into several separate stages or parts so that each person concentrates on what they can do best. Division of labour has been in existence for many years. It increases the output and improves the quality of goods because it paves way for specialisation.
Specialisation refers to a situation where a worker concentrates on doing a job for which he or she is best suited or trained in. Specialisation also occurs when a country, region or county can produce particular products due to conducive climatic conditions. For example, Kenya is endowed with good climatic conditions for production of tea and coffee. Kenya may specialise in farming.
An individual can also be involved in specialisation where he or she concentrates on tea farming and another one on dairy farming. And in specialisation always quality goods and services are produced cause every worker works at his or her best.
