College is an exciting time, but it can also be expensive. However, there are surprising ways to cut college costs and save money. Here are five ideas to consider:
  1. Take advantage of campus resources: Many college campuses offer resources and services that can help you save money. For example, you can use the campus gym instead of paying for a gym membership. You can also take advantage of free tutoring, counseling, and career services.
  2. Consider attending a community college: Attending a community college for your general education requirements can save you thousands of dollars in tuition and fees. You can then transfer to a four-year university to complete your degree.
  3. Opt for open educational resources (OER): Instead of buying expensive textbooks, consider using open educational resources (OER). These are free, online resources that include textbooks, videos, and other materials.
  4. Get creative with housing: Living on campus or in off-campus apartments can be expensive. Consider getting creative with housing options, such as renting a room in a local home, living in a tiny house, or even living in a van or RV.
  5. Take advantage of credit card rewards: Using a credit card can be risky, but if used responsibly, it can also offer rewards that can help you save money. Look for credit cards that offer cashback rewards or travel rewards that can help offset your expenses.
By taking advantage of these surprising ways to cut college costs and save money, you can make the most of your college experience without breaking the bank. Remember to be creative and resourceful, and you'll be on your way to financial success.

As much as you can, scout for scholarship schemes and apply for as many as you can. Any of them can click and you end up having financial relief as a student.

Most campuses have campus WiFis, make sure you enroll and use it for your online needs because they atr always cheaper than having to use mobile networks.

If possible, endeavour to stay in the school hostel. There might be privacy concerns but the campus hostels are cheaper than having to live in off campus accommodations. Make sure as a student, you cook your own food than having to eat at the school cafeteria which is quite expensive.
