It's recommended to seek advice before purchasing assistive technology to ensure it meets the participant's needs. Without prior advice, the NDIS typically won't cover a replacement for wrong item purchased. Skilled professionals can offer guidance on choosing the right assistive technology for the participant.

Assistive technology advisors may include:
  • allied health practitioners such as audiologists, occupational therapists, orthoptists, orthotists/prosthetists, physiotherapists, podiatrists, speech pathologists
  • assistive technology mentors with a recognised qualification in assistive technology advice
  • orientation and mobility specialists for the vision sector
  • continence nurses
  • rehabilitation engineers
