eCommerce is a term used for online business. From online shopping sites and marketplaces to dating website, membership sites, learning websites, freelance marketplaces, payment gateways everything is included as eCommerce.

Social Media is referred to the platform people use for personal, professional, and mass communication, it includes social networking sites, video sharing sites, book marketing sites, online forums and communities, etc.

Now, social media has blended with ecommerce and created a new term social ecommerce.

Social ecommerce means the use of social media platforms to facilitate trade and commerce. Social eCommerce allows businesses and individuals to sell products and services directly to customers by using social media platforms like as Facebook, Instagram, TikTok etc.

Some social media platforms allow the direct purchase and sell, where as some social media allows promoting and marketing to generate sales on third party platforms. For example, on facebook you can either sell through facebook marketplace or Facebook shop. Likewise, on Pinterest, you can promote your products and services to drive sales on your store.

Social ecommerce is getting very popular because this selling tactics allows for customer engagement through direct messaging for customer service, shoppable posts and stories, in-app purchases, marketing products and services, etc.

Social ecommerce is getting popular because of influencer marketing.
