The first step is to define what a business is. A business is an organization that produces, supplies and delivers goods or services for profit. It's the group of people who work together to turn ideas into reality.

A functional business is one that has a clearly defined set of goals and objectives, and that uses its resources to achieve those goals. It is not necessarily a large business but it should be able to operate successfully and profitably with a minimum of outside support.

A functional business must be able to define its own objectives in terms of the activities required to achieve them, based on the available resources. It must also have an effective system of control over these activities so that they can be monitored and controlled at all times.

A functional business describes the overall processes and procedures from conception to completion. This includes all of the different departments and functions within an organization, such as marketing and finance, as well as their interrelationships with one another.
