What do Companies Need to Protect?

Companies need to protect their intellectual property, which includes patents, trademarks, copyrights and trade secrets. Intellectual property rights are important to companies because they can prevent competitors from copying or using their products or services — and thus competing in the marketplace. The more unique a product is, the more likely it is that the company will be able to defend its intellectual property rights against competitors.

But intellectual property protection isn't just about preventing competitors from stealing your ideas. It's also about protecting your business against legal claims by customers who say they're harmed by using your products or services. That's why companies also have to protect customer privacy and data security. Companies need to protect themselves from cyber-attacks, data breaches and other threats.

Protecting your company's data is a top priority for most companies. This is especially true when you consider the breach of Equifax, one of the country's largest consumer credit reporting agencies. In this case, hackers stole personal information on 143 million people.
