I often hear my artiste friends talking about promoters all the time. I am often confused about the role of a promoter in the music business. I don't seem to understand their particular functions. Is it a valid job in the music industry? What do they really do? How do they do what they do? What are the requirements for being a music promoter? Is it a skill that someone can be trained on?
I have heard about the producers and the sound engineers who have well-defined roles in the music biz. I know that the producer makes the best. The sound engineer masters the song. Then, what does the promoter do? He promotes the song? How does he go about promoting the song? I want to know if they are essential parts of a music crew and are worth having/ keeping. Please anyone with useful info on this should share so we can learn.
