The high rate of student loan debt among black women is a barrier to economic mobility. According to a report from the National Urban League, black households headed by someone with a college degree are twice as likely as those without a degree to live in poverty. This is due in part to the fact that black college graduates often have trouble finding good jobs that pay enough money to cover their expenses and repay their loans.

Student loan debt can also make it difficult for black graduatesto buy a home or save for retirement. All of these factors contributeto the wealth gap between white households and black households, which currently stands at about $7 trillion.

The student debt crisis is a particularly difficult problem for black women because they are more likely to take out loans, have higher loan balances, and default on their loans. This creates a barrier to economic mobility that can be difficult to overcome.
