Yes I agree with you journalist can make money through different means now especially online they can do freelancing: writing which will be them writing articles for various publications, websites or magazines and money will be made. Again they can have full-time employment and work for a news organization which is even their main job can work in radio station, online media outlet and other corporation.
As you have stated they can write sponsored content which is about them writing articles or creating content for companies or organizations. Even writing of books and e-books to make money. So much ways to make money.
