It is not easy to save to build one's house, but like you said, it's not impossible. I have seen people take up to 15 years to complete their houses, but at thevebd it's all worth it. A friend of my dad, bought a land with the intention of building a house on the land when he gave birth to his first daughter. He was able to complete this house and move into this house when his daughter got into college. Imagine the number of years he took to build the house. Building a house with one's savings is never an easy thing. Some people take the faster route and borrow money to build their house but i believe saving is much better because one wouldn't have to think of how to pay back the loan after building the house.
