I am trying to rent an apartment and the landlord is asking for Bank Statements. But I get paid in cash? What can I do to get proof of income?

When trying to rent an apartment and your primary source of income is in cash, providing proof of income to a landlord can be a challenge. However, there are several strategies you can employ to demonstrate your financial stability. Firstly, consider presenting bank statements that reflect regular cash deposits, even if you predominantly deal in cash. Additionally, if you have formal employment, request an employment verification letter from your employer, which outlines your job details and income. Income tax returns and pay stubs can also serve as valuable evidence, especially if you receive part of your income through a formal job. For freelancers or gig workers, letters from clients or gig confirmations can substantiate your income. Regular bank deposit slips can further support your case. Reference letters vouching for your financial responsibility and, if necessary, a co-signer or guarantor with stable income can also provide reassurance to landlords. Remember to communicate openly with the landlord and explore mutually acceptable solutions to meet their income verification requirements.
