However, over the years Instagram has evolved from a photo sharing platform to short video sharing platform (because it is trying to compete with youtube shorts and tiktok). Currently, Instagram uses hashtags to determine what kind of content they should be pushing up. They are trying to build organic reach. Therefore, you need to relevant hashtags (hashtags that match your content). If the hashtags are irrelevant, Instagram is not able to target your content to the right audience.

The number of hashtags you should be using depends on your content, if your content is specific, you need to use 3-4 hashtags, however, when your content talks about a lot of things, you can uses 7-8 hashtags.
